Report: Spurs are one of four PL clubs eyeing move for German wonderkid

90 min have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are one of several clubs in the Premier League and across Europe to hold an interest in Bayer Leverkusen starlet Florian Wirtz.

Wirtz had established himself as one of the best young talents in German football after breaking into Leverkusen’s senior side but the youngster’s development had stalled as he was out for almost the entirety of 2022 due to an ACL injury.

The attacking midfielder has impressed since his return to the side and 90 min now assert that his performances have captured the attention of several heavy hitters across the continent.

The report states that Tottenham have watched Wirtz in action this season and they have now been joined in the race for the youngster’s signature by Manchester City, Arsenal and Newcastle United.

In addition, the 19-year-old is also alleged to be on the radars of Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona ahead of the summer transfer window.

The report adds that while Leverkusen do not envisage selling Wirtz this summer, they could reconsider their stance if they receive a sizeable offer for the youngster.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given the number of clubs interested in Wirtz and the fact that he is contracted until 2027 at the BayArena, he could well cost around £40m-£50m in the summer.

I would be surprised if Spurs get involved in a bidding war for the teenager with the likes of City and Newcastle.
