Report: Spurs are one of six clubs interested in Premier League midfielder

According to The Daily Mail journalist Chris Wheeler, Tottenham Hotspur are one of six clubs interested in a deadline day move for Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard.

Tottenham have offloaded Tanguy Ndombele while Giovani Lo Celso is set to join Villareal on loan (Cesar Luis Merlo) and Dele Alli is on the verge of sealing a permanent move to Everton (Fabrizio Romano).

If Wheeler’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs are interested in bringing a midfielder in the form of Lingard, who has struggled for game time at Old Trafford this season.

The journalist revealed that apart from Spurs, the likes of West Ham, Everton, Leicester, Burnley, and Newcastle are also keen on the United star.

However, if ESPN’s Rob Dawson is to be believed, it is West Ham and Newcastle who are leading the race to sign the 29-year-old. Dawson revealed that the United board are now expected to make a decision on Lingard.

I suspect Wheeler is talking about the fact that Spurs showed interest in Lingard earlier in the window. I highly doubt that the 29-year-old is a deadline day target for us.

Besides, Man Utd would likely not allow the England international to join a direct rival for a top-four spot.
