Tottenham Hotspur made an offer for Barcelona goalkeeper Neto before they moved for Atalanta’s Pierluigi Gollini, Mundo Deportivo have revealed.
Neto has found opportunities few and far between since joining Barcelona from Valencia in 2019.
Reports from Spain had previously claimed that Spurs made enquiries for the Brazilian months ago and were told by Barcelona to pay €14m (£12m), a fee which the North Londoners considered to be excessive.
It was alleged that the Lilywhites also explored the possibility of a loan deal but even that proved ‘complicated’.
Mundo Deportivo now report that the North Londoners’ capture of the Italian shot-stopper has ended the chance of Neto joining Spurs this summer.
The report adds that Tottenham and their North London rivals, Arsenal, were ‘the two teams that had bid the most’ for the goalkeeper.
It is explained the Gunners are now the only club to remain in the race for Neto but adds that ‘there is a long way’ to go before the Barca star seals a move to the Emirates.

Between Gollini and Neto, there is no doubt that the Italian is the better goalkeeper. While Neto would have only been able to cover for Lloris, Gollini has the potential to eventually replace the Frenchman as Tottenham’s number one.
