Report: Spurs are planning to cash in on experienced star this summer

Football Insider have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are ready to sell Hugo Lloris when the transfer window reopens this summer.

Lloris has been at Tottenham since 2011 and has been the club captain for the majority of that time but the goalkeeper has shown clear signs of decline this season.

The 36-year-old has been out of action with a knee ligament injury since the start of February but he has now reportedly recovered and featured in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Hotspur Way on Thursday (Evening Standard).

Over the last couple of months, multiple publications have reported that Spurs are expected to be in the market for Lloris’ successor in the summer (Daily Mail).

If Football Insider’s latest update is to be believed, the Frenchman is not likely to stick around as an understudy next season if the Lilywhites do indeed sign a first-choice goalkeeper.

The report alleges that the North London club would be open to selling him for a small fee this summer, with their captain entering the final year of his contract in June.

The publication adds that a return to France is the most likely outcome for Lloris, with plenty of Ligue 1 clubs said to have shown interest in a summer move.

I would personally like to see Lloris stay at the club until the end of his contract but one can understand why the Frenchman might not be willing to serve as an understudy, given that he might only have a couple of more years left in his career.
