Report: Spurs are plotting a ‘late swoop’ for Premier League striker

Tottenham Hotspur could be preparing a surprising and very late move for Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke, with a view to bringing him in before the transfer deadline this month.

Despite selling Harry Kane to Bayern Munich in the summer, Tottenham have yet to officially replace their former talisman.

Alejo Veliz is the only striker Spurs have signed since, with Heung-min Son and Richarlison taking on the role of the number 9 in Ange Postecoglou‘s side this season so far.

They have done pretty well, too, with Son bagging 12 goals (Transfermarkt) and Richarlison currently on eight goals for the season (Transfermarkt).

However, with money in the bank and no direct replacement in place, Spurs fans are keen to see the club invest in a top striker to fill the void left behind by Kane, and a number of names have been mooted as potential candidates to do just that.

Could Dominic Solanke move to Spurs?

Bournemouth star, Dominic Solanke, has been in fine form this term, having registered 14 goals so far (Transfermarkt). Naturally, that has led to speculation that he could be primed for a big move.

The forward is thought to be on Tottenham’s radar, with a £50m price tag expected if the Lilywhites were to make an approach in the summer (Football Insider).

However, Spurs might not be willing to wait, with The Sun suggesting the North London side are considering making a move for the 26-year-old right now, before the winter transfer window closes.

Apparently, the “late swoop” would be worth at least £50m, but it is believed it would take a “huge bid” to force Bournemouth’s hand.

The Cherries have already rejected Newcastle United’s advances, as well as West Ham in the summer, but Spurs are now ready to “test [their] resolve” with a bid before the deadline.

It is thought Bournemouth are scouring the French and Belgian leagues for a replacement in case they receive an offer that is “too good to refuse.”

Spurs Web Opinion

For a start, I think this is too late in the day to persuade Bournemouth to part with their star player regardless of how much we offer, as we would be giving them very little chance to replace him. Secondly, I don’t believe we are about to rush through a move for a striker, when we have seemingly been happy to wait until the summer to get the right man.
