Report: Spurs are ready to ‘send an offer’ for Mexican striker on one condition

Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a move for Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez this summer, in the event that Harry Kane leaves the club.

Kane may have cemented his status as a club legend at Tottenham last year by becoming the all-time leading goalscorer for the Lilywhites (GOAL), but his future is now seriously in doubt.

With just 12 months remaining on his current contract, many have suggested Kane should move on this summer in search of silverware. Either that, or he leaves for nothing next summer.

At present, Bayern Munich are the club most strongly pursuing the England captain. The German side are hopeful a transfer can be arranged this summer, and are preparing a new bid of £80m for Kane according to the Daily Mirror.

Should Kane leave, Spurs will have a huge hole to fill up front. As one would expect, the club has been linked with a number of strikers already as reports speculate who would replace Kane.

Tottenham will bid €40m for Santiago Gimenez

It has previously been reported that Spurs are keen on Feyenoord attacker Santiago Gimenez as a potential Kane replacement, but there is expected to be competition for his signature from clubs across Europe (90 Min).

Now, Mexican outlet Jovenes Futbolistas MX have been discussing Gimenez’s future, and suggested Spurs are ready to make their move.

Apparently, Tottenham are “planning to offer” €40m (£34.6m) for the player this summer and have “already met” with his agents.

The problem is, Feyenoord want €50m (£43.3m) for their star striker. Spurs are reportedly aware of this, but would be keen to open negotiations slightly lower to test the water.

Either way, the report makes it clear that no approach will be made for Gimenez until the time comes that Kane moves on.

According to the player’s father in a report from FR12, Gimenez is ‘very happy’ at Feyenoord, but he cannot ‘rule out’ the idea that an offer could come their way this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Santiago Gimenez was on fire last season and would be a great acquisition for Spurs.

No one will be able to fill the boots of Harry Kane, but Gimenez certainly looks a good fit for our ethos and Ange Postecoglou’s system.
