Report: Spurs are ‘ready to shop’ for centre-back who is wanted by three Serie A giants

TuttoMercatoWeb have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are expected to battle it out with three Serie A giants for the services of Bologna centre-back Riccardo Calafiori this summer.

Despite adding Radu Dragusin to his squad in January, Ange Postecoglou confirmed a few weeks ago that Spurs will pursue a centre-back when the transfer window reopens in the summer (Football.London).

Calafiori, who is having an exceptional season at Bologna, is thought to be one of the names on the North London club’s radar, with CalcioMercato.it even claiming last month that Tottenham are ‘in the front row’ to sign the versatile defender.

Three Italian sides on Calafiori’s trail

TMW say that Calafiori’s performances for Bologna this season have not only caught the attention of Spurs but have also stoked the interest of Juventus, Napoli and AC Milan.

It is said that Juve have followed the player closely for several months while Milan have already made contact with Bologna about the defender’s availability.

However, the outlet suggests that these sides are way of Tottenham ‘in particular’, who are ‘ready to shop’ in Italy for the 21-year-old.

The publication adds that Bologna want to make €20m (£17m) from Calafiori’s sale but the centre-back’s former club, Basel, have a 40 per cent sell-on clause on the Italy Under-21 international.

Spurs Web Opinion

Out of all the centre-backs that Tottenham have been linked with over the last couple of months, Calafiori clearly stands out as the best option. Not only is he young, has a high ceiling and is likely to be relatively inexpensive, but he can also operate as a left-back.
