Report: Spurs are set to hold ‘surprise’ contract talks with midfielder

Football Insider have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are planning to hold ‘surprise’ talks over a new contract with Giovani Lo Celso’s camp.

It has been widely reported over the last few weeks that Lo Celso is one of a number of first-team players who are expected to exit Hotspur Way this summer (Football.London).

In fact, some Spanish outlets have suggested recently that the Argentina international is unhappy with his lack of game time at the North London club and is quite keen to return to his former club Real Betis (Estadio Deportivo).

However, last week, TuttoMercatoWeb claimed that Spurs may try to block the midfielder’s exit and may even consider offering him a new deal.

Contract talks expected between Spurs and Lo Celso

This has now been backed up by Football Insider, who say that Tottenham are ready to hold talks over an extension for Lo Celso, who has just a year left on his contract.

It is explained that Spurs are trying to protect their asset and are prepared to extend the player’s deal by a year or two.

The report adds that the 28-year-old will not have the final say over his future as he faces a decision behind remaining a squad player at Tottenham and moving elsewhere in search of regular game time.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can see why Postecoglou would want to keep Lo Celso around as a squad player as the Argentine is actually a good fit for his system and possesses some useful attributes.

However, I would be surprised if the former Villarreal man decides to stay, given his struggles for game time since the turn of the year.
