The Telegraph have reported that Tottenham Hotspur are set to make their opening bid for James Maddison this week, as they hope to secure his signature as soon as possible.
Although Leicester City are holding out for £60m, Spurs are reportedly willing to table an opening offer of £40m for the playmaker, which will include add-ons and further instalments.

The report claims that Spurs want to ‘thrash out’ a deal this week, presumably to have Maddison at Hotspur Way in time for the club’s pre-season trip to Australia.
Tottenham ready to submit first bid for Maddison
The Telegraph confirm that Newcastle United have cooled their interest in the England international following their pursuit of Sandro Tonali from AC Milan, which is why Spurs have ramped up their move for Maddison.
Spurs Web Opinion:
Getting your top target through the door in the early weeks takes so much pressure off in the market. Spurs would then be able to focus on the defensive side of the squad, and offloading any deadwood.
I also think that £40m plus add-ons seems fair considering Leicester’s relegation and Maddison’s contract situation.
