Report: Spurs are ‘waging a merciless battle’ with PL rivals to sign central defender

Foot Mercato have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are continuing to battle it out for Tosin Adarabioyo’s signature, with the Magpies currently holding the upper hand in the race.

It is now clear that Adarabioyo will leave Fulham as a free agent this summer, with various sources confirming that the centre-back has already informed the Cottagers of his decision (Ben Jacobs).

However, it is unclear which club the 26-year-old will head to, with Spurs insider Paul O Keefe revealing a couple of days ago that the defender had turned down the Lilywhites’ proposal.

Battle continues between Spurs and Newcastle

Foot Mercato have now said that while AS Monaco previously expressed an interest in Adarabioyo, they have now pulled out of the race for him.

The report states that Tottenham and Newcastle are now ‘waging a merciless battle’ for the Fulham player’s signature ahead of the summer.

It is explained, however, that Spurs have not offered the Englishman any sporting guarantees, which potentially diminishes their chances.

The publication adds that Newcastle now hold an advantage in the race for Adarabioyo after the centre-back held positive discussions with Eddie Howe.

Spurs Web Opinion

Even with Spurs being back in Europe next season, Adarabioyo is only going to play a handful of games unless there is an injury crisis at the North London club. So I do not see how the Lilywhites can persuade the 26-year-old to sign on the dotted line.
