Report: Spurs are ‘well-placed’ to beat Newcastle to top summer target

Football Insider have revealed that even though Newcastle United have entered the race for Conor Gallagher, Tottenham are in pole position ahead of the Magpies to sign the Chelsea star this summer.

It has been widely reported over the past few months that Spurs are one of the leading contenders to land Gallagher, who is expected to be sold by Chelsea this summer due to their PSR issues ((The Times).

However, over recent days, several outlets have suggested that Newcastle have entered the race to sign the England international after studying his performances closely (Chronicle Live).

Tottenham remain in pole position for Conor Gallagher

Football Insider have now said that despite Newcastle’s advances, Spurs are still ‘well-placed’ to sign Gallagher this summer.

The report points out that while the Blues academy graduate had turned down the chance to leave Stamford Bridge last summer, he is now ready to leave his boyhood club at the end of the season.

While Eddie Howe’s men are said to be weighing up a move for the midfielder, it is pointed out that they are not in a position to spend big, given their position with respect to PSR.

The publication adds that Tottenham are in a much healthier financial position, which makes them the favourites to land Gallagher.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Tottenham would not have any trouble outbidding the likes of Newcastle and West Ham for Gallagher, the only issue they might face is Chelsea’s potential reluctance to sell to them.

However, given that the Blues desperately need to raise funds, one would expect them to sell the midfielder to the highest bidder.
