Report: Spurs are working on possible part-exchange deal involving Lo Celso

According to Sky Italia (07/06/22 – as relayed by GIFN), Tottenham Hotspur have now begun working on a part-exchange to sign Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres.

Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni is reportedly Tottenham’s first-choice target for the left centre-back role this summer but Torres is another name who is thought to be on the Lilywhites’ radar (Football.London’s Alasdair Gold).

Following Italy’s 2-1 win over Hungary on Tuesday, Bastoni insisted that Inter have not communicated anything regarding a potential transfer this summer and that he expects to begin pre-season with the Serie A club (RAI Sport via Sempre Inter).

If Sky Italia’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs have now shifted their attention towards signing Torres.

Football Insider reported last month that Tottenham could use Giovani Lo Celso, who shone on loan at Villarreal in the second half of the 2021/22 campaign, as a makeweight in a deal for Torres.

That is exactly what Spurs intend to do, according to Sky Italia, who suggests that Conte’s men are ready to involve Lo Celso in the deal for the 25-year-old centre-back.

I suspected that Spurs would run out of patience in their pursuit of Bastoni sooner rather than later and turn their attentions to alternatives like Torres. However, this could also be a smokescreen from the North London club to potentially force Inter into speeding up the negotiations or reducing their demands for Bastoni.
