Report: Spurs ‘at the head’ of the queue for 38-year-old manager

According to Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to land Sporting Lisbon head coach Ruben Amorim this summer.

The report claims that a number of Premier League clubs have their eye on Amorim on the back of the impressive job he has done at Jose Alvalade Stadium.

It is explained that Spurs are ‘at the head’ of a long list of suitors for the Portuguese coach, having identified him as a potential option to take over from Antonio Conte in the summer.

The report adds that the Lilywhites could also face competition from outside the Premier League, with Paris Saint-Germain also said to be eyeing Amorim as a replacement for Christophe Galtier following their elimination from the Champions League.

Correio da Manha reveal that since the 38-year-old is the brother-in-law of former PSG sporting director Antero Henrique, the possible move could be ‘sped up’ if the Parisians show interest.

Is it also said that any interested club would have to meet the €20m (£17.6m) release clause included in Amorim’s contract.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Amorim has a bright future in the game but I do not think he is ready for a jump up to a top-six Premier League job just yet.

Spurs would be taking a big risk by appointing him, which is why I would be surprised if he is anywhere near the top of Paratici’s wishlist.
