Report: Spurs awaiting news on whether South American could miss next two matches

Tottenham Hotspur are awaiting the results of whether Rodrigo Bentancur will be fit to face West Ham United after he sustained a concussion during Sunday’s match at Nottingham Forest, according to the Evening Standard.

The midfielder took a blow to his head in the latter stages of the match at the City Ground and after receiving treatment, he was advised by Spurs’ medical staff that he was not in a fit state to return to the pitch and had to be replaced by Djed Spence.

Bentancur has started all four of Tottenham’s opening Premier League fixtures in the heart of Antonio Conte’s midfield alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

If it is confirmed that the 25-year-old has suffered a head injury, protocol would mean he would have to miss six days and effectively rule him out of tomorrow’s trip to West Ham United and the visit of Fulham on Saturday.

With Oliver Skipp having been sidelined since pre-season due to a foot injury and having only returned to training on Monday, Yves Bissouma is the most likely candidate to pair up with Hojbjerg.

Bentancur is a key part of Conte’s blueprint, however, the signing of Bissouma during the summer has been a key addition, especially to add further depth to the squad for incidents such as this where the Italian is potentially without two of his midfield options.

Bissouma had an unfortunate start to life at Spurs having contracted Covid in South Korea and picking up a hamstring strain in Israel, after a few cameo appearances he could be set to prove why he is likely to be one of the signings of the transfer window.
