Report: Spurs back in the race for 29-year-old England international

The Daily Mail have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have now re-entered the race to sign West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone ahead of the summer transfer window.

Hugo Lloris penned a two-year contract extension with Tottenham in January but the North London club could be on the lookout for a goalkeeper in the summer as they are not expected to take up the option to sign Pierluigi Gollini permanently (Goal).

The Mail have now claimed that Spurs are on the lookout for a goalkeeper to provide competition to Lloris and have identified Johnstone as an option.

It is said that the England shot-stopper is expected to leave the Hawthorns when his contract runs out in the summer.

The report states that Spurs showed interest in Johnstone during the January window but decided to prioritise additions in other areas of the pitch.

The Lilywhites are expected to reignite their interest in the Preston-born goalkeeper in the summer and are allegedly expected to face competition from the likes of Newcastle, West Ham, Southampton and Rangers.

Spurs Web Opinion

Johnstone will be keen to make the England squad for the World Cup in November and so, he would probably want to be assured of the number one spot at his next club. He is unlikely to get that at Spurs, which is why I do not think a move to North London is on the cards for the 29-year-old.
