Report: Spurs battle seven big clubs for Ajax sensation

With Tanguy Ndombele putting pen to paper until 2025, in a club record signing, that sends out a huge statement of intent from the club, not only in our on-field ambition and Ndombele’s potential, but also in Daniel Levy’s belief and trust that Mauricio Pochettino can tighten our grip on the upper echelons of elite football and push us even further towards glory.

With pre-season yet to start, this transfer window doesn’t show any signs of slowing down for us as we are linked with big money moves for top players from across Europe.

But who could be next to sign on the dotted line?

Well, according to the Spanish media publication AS, the 22-year-old Ajax sensation Donny van de Beek is who our greedy paws are out for next. With 17 goals and 10 assists overall (as per WhoScored) last season and a gifted eye for goals and forward passing, it’s easy to see why we could be interested in such a young talent.

Our interest doesn’t come without any challenges though. If we are to win the race for the talented Netherlands international signature, we will need to beat seven of the world’s elite football clubs, including Manchester United and Real Madrid (AS).

To add fire to our hopes of securing this talented midfielder, respected Dutch journalist Marcel van der Kraan told talkSPORT: “Van de Beek has his eyes set on the Premier League. He is a Premier League type player with an Ajax education and can play in many positions in midfield. He wants a move to Man United or Spurs and his agent says if that materialises that would be right up his street”

At a rational €50m- €60m for a talent of Donny’s calibre (as per AS), will Levy sanction the deal, or will we see the sale of our great Dane before any significant payments like this are made? If Levy could pull off the signing to yet another talented young international, then surely the Levy doubters will have to start believing?

What are your thoughts? Will Donny be playing alongside Ndombele for Spurs next season in a frightening, young, and exciting midfield? If so, is a title challenge on the cards?

Spurs Web Opinion:

With the signing of Ndombele, I don’t see any reason why we cannot snip Donny van de Beek from under the noses of Europe’s elite. Donny is young and full of goals and would be a great addition to the squad. But if he were to arrive, should it be at the expense of Eriksen? Eriksen has done himself justice since joining and if he were to move for pastures new, we should wish him the best of luck and thank him for some incredible memories. But why can’t we be greedy and have all the nice things?
