Report: Spurs battle with rivals Arsenal for £44m star

Tottenham Hotspur will surely be looking to add to their ranks this summer, as will arch-rivals Arsenal as they look to break back into the top four next season.

Turkish Football has now claimed that both clubs are currently looking at the same player in Roma youngster Cengiz Under.

The report adds that Under is currently negotiating a new contract in Italy, but that doesn’t appear to have deterred the North London clubs.

Despite only being 21-years of age, Under has already clocked up 62 Serie A appearances, scoring 14 and setting up a further 12 in this time, not a bad return for a young winger (Express).

The Express claim that the asking price for the player is around 50 million Euros, and a deal could hinge on whether Roma qualify for the Champions League next season.

Tottenham already have guaranteed Champions League football, whereas Arsenal still have a chance to qualify by winning the Europa League final.

Spurs Web Opinion:

This deal seems unlikely. It sounds as if Under will probably sign a new contract at Roma, and 50 million is a lot to pay for a player in a position that Spurs don’t particularly need people. With Heung Min Son and Lucas Moura in the squad, the wing isn’t a priority in my view. Perhaps a signing for another window, but I would prefer a central midfielder, a playmaker, and a right-back this summer.
