Report: Spurs beat Liverpool, Man Utd and Real Madrid to player this summer

The Athletic have revealed that Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid were eyeing a deal for Yves Bissouma this summer.

Bissouma arrived with a big reputation from Brighton during the summer but the midfielder has struggled to break into Tottenham’s starting eleven.

Antonio Conte admitted last month that the 26-year-old was ‘struggling with the tactical aspect’ of Tottenham’s system, which is why he has not had as many minutes as the likes of Ivan Perisic, Richarlison and Clement Lenglet (Football London).

The Mali international was handed just his second start for Spurs against his former club on Saturday as the Italian shifted to a 3-5-2.

He put in a decent display alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur in the middle of the park as the Lilywhites came away with a hard-fought 1-0 win from the Amex Stadium.

While discussing Bissouma’s struggles at Spurs this season, The Athletic have now explained that the midfielder was wanted by several top clubs around Europe.

The report alleges that the former Brighton man was on the radar of Liverpool, Man Utd and Real Madrid before he eventually chose to join Spurs.

Perhaps Conte will have a little more confidence in Bissouma after his display on Saturday.

However, Bentancur and Hojbjerg have both been excellent so far this season, and it is difficult to see Conte dropping either player if he chooses to continue with a 3-4-3.

It does not help Bissouma’s cause that both Bentancur and Hojbjerg are extremely fit and rarely ever get injured.
