Report: Spurs believe they are leading race for attacking midfielder

According to the print edition of The Sunday Mirror (10/7; page 74), Tottenham Hotspur believe that they are in the driving seat to land Maccabi Tel Aviv starlet Oscar Gloukh.

Reports indicate that Antonio Conte’s men are on the lookout for a playmaker this summer, with the likes of Lyon’s Lucas Paqueta and Leicester City’s James Maddison mooted as potential targets (Football.London).

The Sunday Mirror have now claimed that Spurs also have their eyes on Gloukh, who won many admirers after breaking into the Maccabi Tel Aviv first-team last season.

The Israeli Under-21 international, who scored three goals in 8 league appearances last season (Transfermarkt), is also said to be of interest to the likes of Ajax, Borussia Dortmund, Rangers and Roma.

However, it is said that Spurs have already made contact regarding a possible move for the 18-year-old and that the north Londoners believe that they are now leading the race for the youngster.

The report adds that Gloukh, who has been likened to former Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun, is valued at around £10m.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think Spurs will view Gloukh as a first-team option for the moment. If we do sign the 18-year-old, it is likely to be a deal similar to the Pape Matar Sarr one last summer, whereby he is loaned back to Maccabi Tel Aviv for the upcoming season.
