Report: Spurs block loan proposal for midfielder after disagreeing on wage structure

Tottenham have blocked an offer from Fiorentina to sign Giovani Lo Celso on loan after being unhappy with the wage structure behind the proposal, according to La Nazione (18/07/22 — via Fiorentina Uno and Sport Witness).

The report notes La Viola are keen to take the Argentina midfielder for the season and want Spurs to contribute part of his wage payments, which has currently slowed negotiations.

While it is claimed Spurs are willing to part ways with Lo Celso, the Premier League club is not interested in sharing the salary burden and wants potential suitors to take on his full package.

Lo Celso, who joined Spurs from Real Betis in 2019, has been told he can leave the club this summer according to El Periodico Mediterraneo (11/07/22 —via Sport Witness) after enduring a difficult spell in North London.

The 26-year-old was loaned out to Villarreal in the second half of last season and impressed during his stint, which has led the Spanish side to hold an interest in a permanent transfer (AS).

He returned to Spurs for pre-season training but was left out of Antonio Conte’s travelling squad for the now concluded tour of South Korea.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham may have trouble offloading Lo Celso because of his current wages, which is why teams such as Fiorentina are pursuing a loan deal at the moment.

It is tough because they have dropped their valuation of him quite a bit from what it was a few years ago, but realistically it is no use to them just loaning him out again – especially if they still have to pay a part of his wages.
