Report: Spurs can claim nearly half a million from FIFA for Lo Celso injury

Just as his Tottenham career was starting to get going, Giovani Lo Celso is now out injured until late October.

Despite not yet starting a Spurs match, the Argentine was called up to his senior national squad to play in a friendly against Chile.

In this game, Lo Celso received a nasty studs down challenge on his ankle, before taking a knock on the hip that forced him off in the second half.

Tottenham then confirmed that the injury would keep the midfielder out for over a month, which may be bad news for Pochettino, but could result in some cash for Spurs.

Football London have reported that the FIFA Club Protection Programme means that Spurs can claim compensation for the injury, as it will keep Lo Celso out for over 28 days and it happened in the FIFA match calendar.

As part of this scheme, a maximum of £6.6m can be claimed, based on the salary that the player earns, up until they return to full team training.

Football London have calculated this to be around £490,000 from Lo Celso’s £70,000 a week wages.
