BILD have now explained that there is a release clause in Oliver Glasner’s contract with Eintracht Frankfurt but it would have to be activated before the club’s final game of the season.
Multiple sources have reported over the last week that Glasner is one of the names on Spurs’ shortlist to replace Antonio Conte but the Austrian is not expected to leave Frankfurt until the end of the season (Fabrizio Romano –YouTube channel).
Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg revealed a couple of days ago that the German club are keen to tie the 48-year-old down to a new contract amidst interest from England.
However, Bild have now asserted that Frankfurt would have ‘no chance’ of hanging on to Glanser if the likes of Spurs get ‘really serious’.
This is because the Eintracht boss harbours ambitions of winning the Champions League, and wants a club that would offer him a ‘realistic chance’ of doing so.
It is explained that while none of those clubs have made a serious offer for him so far, they have put him on the list of candidates, and they are also aware of a release clause that exists in his contract at Deutsche Bank Park.
However, the report asserts that should the clause not be activated before Frankfurt’s final game of the season, clubs would have to negotiate a fee with the Bundesliga club for Glasner.
Spurs Web Opinion
I do not think any club with realistic ambitions of winning the Champions League are likely to consider Glasner for the moment.
The Austrian needs one more stepping stone, perhaps at a mid-table Premier League club like West Ham, in order to really put himself forward as a top candidate for the biggest jobs, including the Spurs one.
