Report: Spurs’ chances of appointing Lyon head of recruitment take a hit

Tottenham Hotspur’s reported plans to hire Lyon head of recruitment, Florian Maurice, could be over as reports from France suggest that he could be Rennes bound.

The 51-year-old has enjoyed a lot of success during his time in France and was even the man who bought Tanguy Ndombele to the club for just £8 million before Lyon moved him on to Spurs for eight times that amount last summer (BBC Sport).

Tottenham confirmed last month that head of academy coaching and player development, John McDermott, will depart the club at the end of the season and take up the role of assistant technical director at the Football Association.

L’Equipe reported last month that Tottenham were on the hunt to bolster their backroom staff and had identified Maurice as one of the candidates to bring in.

However, the same publication now reports that the former PSG striker has agreed to take up a job with Ligue 1 side Rennes instead. So, it looks as if Spurs may have to look elsewhere if they wish to appoint a new technical director.

Maurice certainly has shown that he has an eye for talent during his time at Lyon and a move to Rennes seems like a step down for him. However, I believe Luis Campos is the man Daniel Levy really wants, although I am not sure the club will be pursuing a deal for him this summer, given the financial uncertainty they are dealing with.
