Report: Spurs check on welfare of player following robbery

Tottenham Hotspur are said to have been in contact with Emerson Royal after the defender was the subject of robbery by gunpoint, according to The Telegraph.

The 23-year-old was back in his native Brazil when an armed robber threatened to kill him at gunpoint outside of a Sao Paulo nightclub if he refused to hand over his gold chain and watch, having moments before posed for a photo with an off-duty policeman.

Thankfully, the off-duty policeman came to the aid of the Brazilian with local reports claiming that the man exchanged 29 shots with the officer before being wounded in the back.

In a statement, police said the thief was later taken to hospital and local media reported that his life was not under threat (BBC).

Royal took to his Instagram story (03/06) following the incident to describe the policeman as an ‘angel’ for risking his own life to come to his safety.

Spurs have reached out to the Brazilian international following the ordeal to offer their support and check on his welfare.

Spurs are right to make contact with their player after what was clearly a traumatic ordeal for Royal. He can count himself very lucky to escape unharmed thanks to the brave decision of the policeman.
