Report: Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal ‘have their eye’ on the same centre-back

BILD Sports journalist Christian Falk has told GiveMeSport that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping track of Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie, but so are Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea.

Hincapie joined Leverkusen in August 2021 and has developed into one of the most highly-rated centre-backs in world football today. Despite only making 52 appearances for the German side (Transfermarkt), there are plenty of clubs looking to sign him up.

The Mirror recently claimed Spurs were considering making a bid for Hincapie this month, with a view to loaning him back to Leverkusen for the rest of the season. According to The Sun, the North London side were weighing up a £20 million offer for the Ecuador international.

More recently, FootballInsider claimed both Newcastle United and Everton were set to hold talks with the Bundesliga club about the availability of Hincapie. Nothing appears to have come of those discussions as of yet, though.

Now, the latest from GiveMeSport appears to suggest clubs from the ‘big six’ are circling Hincapie and monitoring his situation over in Germany.

Falk said: “Tottenham still has it’s eye on him, already in the summer, but also Arsenal again and Chelsea are visiting what is happening with him.”

It remains to be seen whether Hincapie will be on the move this month, or if he will stick around until the end of the season. However, with the number of clubs showing interest, Leverkusen will probably need to be braced for an offer of some kind in the near future.

Spurs Web Opinion

Piero Hincapie is right up at the top of my list for potential options to solve our centre-back issues. He’s only young but has so much talent and experience at the highest level for club and country. He has aggression and strength, but is also a decent ball-playing defender, too and would suit our system perfectly.
