Report: Spurs close to completing £15m defender deal ahead of the weekend

The Telegraph have now revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are now poised to sign Djed Spence for an initial fee of £15m.

Tottenham’s negotiations with Middlesbrough for Spence had seemingly been dragging on for several weeks, and The Guardian reported last week that Boro were growing ‘irrirated’ with the north London club.

However, there appears to have been some positive developments over the last few days, with The Evening Standard reporting on Monday that Spurs are confident of signing the right-back this week.

The Telegraph have now revealed that Antonio Conte’s are ‘edging towards’ an agreement with Boro for Spence after weeks of negotiations.

It is explained that the Championship club rejected previous offers of £10m and £11m for the 21-year-old from Spurs, but are now settling on a £15m fee upfront which could reach £20m with add-ons.

The report states that Spence is expected to complete his medical in time to fly out to South Korea with the rest of the Tottenham squad on Saturday.

I had never had any doubts that this deal would go through as it was always clear that Spence was our top target for the right wing-back role this summer.

Spurs were seemingly trying to get the best deal possible as they were in a strong negotiating position, given the 21-year-old’s desire to join the club.

Now that we are just days away from the pre-season tour to Asia, Tottenham have unsurprisingly decided to accelerate the negotiations and get the deal over the line.
