Report: Spurs ‘close’ to first signing in Mourinho era – deal expected to be finalised next week

Tottenham Hotspur have yet to make their first signing under Jose Mourinho since the Special One took over in November last year, despite being 12 days into the January transfer window.

However, if reports are to be believed, Spurs fans may not have to wait too much longer, as they are apparently ‘close’ to bringing in their first new player of the window.

Sky Sports report that Benfica midfielder, Gedson Fernandes, is close to joining Spurs on loan for the next 18-months.

The 21-year-old Portuguese international is expected to fly to London as early as next week to finalise the deal ahead of the move.

What makes this all the sweeter for Spurs fans is that Gedson Fernandes reportedly chose Tottenham over West Ham, with both clubs vying for his services.

Tottenham apparently wanted to sign a new midfielder after the long-term injury to Moussa Sissoko, with the Frenchman having to undergo surgery on his knee.
