Report: Spurs ‘close’ to sealing £26m deal for talented midfielder

According to a report in Spanish publication AS, Tottenham are close to sealing a deal for Dynamo Zagreb’s Dani Olmo.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder had a fantastic season with Zagreb before impressing for Spain in their successful Euro Under-21 championship this summer.

The attacking midfielder, who likes to get on the ball and make things happen, is expected to leave the Croatian club this summer.

The report claims that Olmo is yet to make a decision regarding his next destination but the lilywhites are said to be leading the race for the former Barcelona academy product.

Olmo, who can play down the middle as well as out wide, is said to be valued at around €30 million by Zagreb and it is claimed that the relationship between Tottenham and the Croatian club is positive following their purchase of Luka Modric in 2008.

It is also suggested that Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, and Roma all retain an interest in Olmo.

If there is truth to this report, then it is likely Olmo’s performances in the recently concluded Euro U-21 Championship that convinced the club to pursue him.

While the Spaniard clearly looks a talent, we believe that it will take at least one more season before he is ready for first team football at Tottenham.
