Report: Spurs ‘closely following’ star who is out of contract in summer

According to a report from Estadio Deportivo, Tottenham Hotspur are one of several clubs across Europe that have shown interest in signing Marseille star Florian Thauvin in the summer.

Thauvin has been one of the most consistent attackers in Ligue 1 for the best part of the last decade, with the winger’s eight-year spell in Marseille only interrupted by a brief but unsuccessful spell at Newcastle United in the first half of the 2015/16 season.

The 28-year-old, whose contract with the French giants runs out at the end of the season, was mooted as a possible target for Tottenham a couple of months ago.

Estadio Deportivo now claim that Thauvin could be set to leave the Orange Velodrome this summer, with Marseille struggling to meet his wage demands.

The report explains that the French international is likely to be one of the most sought-after free agents across Europe, with Spurs being one of the club’s ‘closely following’ his situation.

Sevilla, Roma and Napoli have also shown interest in the wide man, while Leicester City have already put an offer on the table for him.

It is revealed that Thauvin is yet to make a decision on his future and Marseille president Pablo Longoria has not given up hope of renewing his contract.

Spurs Web Opinion

While centre-back, right-back and centre midfield will likely be the positions that Spurs will prioritise strengthening in the summer, it will be interesting to see what we do as far as our wide options are concerned.

There are still question marks around Bale while Bergwijn has not had a particularly good season. Despite Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura coming into form over recent months, their futures do not appear secure either.
