Report: Spurs ‘closing in’ on sixth signing of the summer transfer window

Tottenham Hotspur are likely to complete a deal for Middlesbrough defender Djed Spence by the weekend, according to The Mirror.

Spence was left back in England while his Boro team-mates made the trip to Portugal for their pre-season camp with talks between Tottenham and the Championship side continuing.

Boro boss Chris Wilder said earlier this month that he has removed himself from the discussions and it is being dealt with at board level (TeesideLive).

The Riverside outfit are reported to be holding out for £20million to part company with the England Under-21 international with it being claimed that there does not seem much doubt that Spurs will ‘land their prey’.

Spence impressed last season during his season-long loan at Nottingham Forest, having helped Steve Cooper’s side secure a long-awaited return to the Premier League.

The right wing-back would become the club’s sixth signing of the transfer window, with the north Londoners having already signed Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and Clement Lenglet.

It seems more than likely that the deal will go through before the start of the season and there is no doubt that Antonio Conte will be wanting the transfer wrapped up as soon as possible to integrate the 21-year-old into his squad, having missed valuable time on the tour of South Korea.
