Report: Spurs closing on club-record transfer deal

Tottenham Hotspur are close to signing Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele according to Sky Sports.

The report from Sky carried the headline ‘Tottenham close to signing Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon‘ which will certainly fill Spurs fans with hope that they could be on the verge of a major transfer coup.

Ndombele has been on Tottenham’s radar for a couple of seasons and was viewed as a replacement for Mousa Dembele who eventually left the club to join Guangzhou R&F in January.

The 22-year-old has experienced a spectacular rise to the top having moved to Lyon from Amiens in August 2017 on an initial loan deal and has since gone on to earn six caps for France.

Manchester City and Manchester United have been credited with interest in the player previously with Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas stating his preference would be to sell to Juventus (Sky Sports).

Ndombele is viewed as Tottenham’s top target of the summer transfer window and would certainly be an impressive addition to the squad ahead of the new campaign.

Tottenham’s current record transfer fee was in the region of £42m which they paid Ajax for Davinson Sanchez in 2017 (Guardian) while Ndombele is expected to cost north of £60million (The Sun).
