Report: Spurs competing with AC Milan for 24-year-old Serie A star

CalcioMercato have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are still in the race or Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic ahead of the January transfer window.

It was reported by multiple sources during the summer (Gazzetta dello Sport and Firenze Viola) that Spurs were competing with West Ham United for Milenkovic, with Fabio Paratici alleged to be a big fan of the versatile defender.

However, the central defender ended up staying at the Artemio Franchi Stadium and subsequently signed a new contract with the Viola.

That does not guarantee that the 24-year-old is set to remain at Florence for the foreseeable future as his current deal only runs until the summer of 2023.

CalcioMercato have now stated that Fiorentina will soon ‘have to make a decision’ on Milenkovic.

The report explains that the centre-back is wanted by AC Milan following the knee injury sustained by Simon Kjaer.

It is suggested that Spurs are the Rossoneri’s biggest competitors for Milenkovic, with Antonio Conte’s men lurking ‘in the background’.

Spurs Web Opinion

Milenkovic would be a good fit for Conte’s back three and he would be considerably cheaper than the likes of De Vrij or Skriniar.

However, I doubt the Serbian is near the top of Paratici’s or Conte’s wishlist.  I suspect he is a fallback option for Spurs in case the club are not able to get their top centre-back targets.
