Report: Spurs ‘confident’ Pau Torres could be sold for £10m under release clause

Tottenham are reportedly confident that Pau Torres can be signed for up to £10 million below Villarreal’s asking price this summer, according to Football Insider.

Spurs are already planning for a full season under Antonio Conte, with the Italian thought to have requested up to six new players to bring in during the transfer window (Telegraph).

A left-sided centre-back has been placed as a priority for the North London side (The Athletic), with Torres now said to be one of the names on the club’s shortlist.

As per Football Insider, Villarreal could soon look to cash in on the 25-year-old, who currently has a release clause worth £55 million.

The report explains that Spurs are confident the Spanish side could accept a bid in the £45 million range, although it remains to be seen whether the Lilywhites can win the race to his signature.

Torres was the subject of heavy interest to Spurs last summer (90min) but opted against a transfer to remain with his boyhood club and play in the Champions League.

The decision since proved to be a fruitful one as he played a vital role in Villarreal’s run to the semi-final, which ended in defeat to Liverpool.

Torres has been one of the most sought-after defenders over the last few years now and now could be the time for him to take another step in his career.

He could be a very good option for Spurs to bring in as he is a left-footed defender, so he could slot in quite nicely in Antonio Conte’s back line.
