Report: Spurs confident that one defender will stay but one may leave this summer

Tottenham Hotspur have struggled defensively since the start of the new season, conceding at least one goal in each and every match so far.

Spurs went 1-0 down against Aston Villa at the new Spurs stadium on the opening day, before eventually rescuing it with a 3-1 victory.

The Lilywhites then had to come from behind twice against Man City at the Etihad to record a lucky 2-2 draw with the champions.

Finally, back at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium again at the weekend, Spurs went 1-0 down to Newcastle and never recovered.

Despite the consistent defensive issues, Pochettino has continued to choose Davinson Sanchez over Jan Vertonghen and Kyle Walker-Peters over Serge Aurier.

The Mirror have now reported that Tottenham are confident that Vertonghen will remain at the club this summer, with his absence being tactical only.

However, even with a potential Walker-Peters injury, the report adds that Aurier may be let go before the September 2 window shuts.
