Report: Spurs considering move for ex-Chelsea man to bolster defence

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a number of new central defenders in the recent past, with Jan Vertonghen coming to the end of his contract and the current back line leaking goals.

Spurs have deployed the Belgian partnership of Alderweireld and Vertonghen for many seasons now, with the right-foot left-foot combination working perfectly.

However, Spurs are reportedly now keen on moving for a new young left-footed central defender in Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake, who is also said to be a Chelsea target (Telegraph).

Ake has played 16 games in the Premier League for Bournemouth this season, scoring one and assisting one in that time (TransferMarkt).

The Netherlands international also used to play for Chelsea, featuring in 17 games during his time there (TransferMarkt).

The Blues are said to have a buy-back clause of £40m for their ex-player, so Spurs may have to get in quick if they want to land the centre back (Express).

Ake could partner the likes of Davinson Sanchez, Juan Foyth, and Japhet Tanganga for the long-term at Tottenham.
