Report: Spurs considering offers for player less than a year after paying £26m for him

Tottenham are already considering offers for Emerson Royal less than a year after arriving at the club, The Sun reports.

Emerson, who joined Spurs for £26 million from Barcelona last summer (BBC Sport), has struggled for the majority of his stint in north London so far.

The Brazilian defender has come under scrutiny for a number of unconvincing performances at right wing-back, which has since caused him to lose his place in the side to Matt Doherty.

The latter has started Tottenham’s last three games in all competitions, with his most recent display yielding two assists in the 5-0 mauling of Everton on Monday.

And Emerson’s failure to inspire could see his Spurs career cut short according to The Sun, who claim the club is already looking to offload him this summer.

Should the 23-year-old head towards the exit at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Middlesborough’s Djed Spence, who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest, has been touted as an option to come into Antonio Conte’s squad (GOAL).

Spurs are expected face a battle to land the English defender’s signature with a host of other Premier League clubs and teams around Europe monitoring his progress this term (Sky Sports).

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s tough as Emerson is more suited to playing at right-back as opposed to wing-back, which isn’t what Conte likes to use.

It’s a problem that Spurs don’t exactly need considering he is a new signing, but if they don’t see his future at the club then it needs to be rectified quickly.
