Report: Spurs ‘continue to push’ for attacker – Could be available for £26m-£35m

According to a report in Gazzetta dello Sport (21/10/22 – as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham may be able to sign Nicolo Zaniolo for a cut-price fee next summer.

Zaniolo was heavily linked with a move to Spurs all through the summer transfer window (CalcioMercato) but the winger ended up staying put at the Stadio Olimpico.

The 23-year-old’s current contract at the Italian capital runs until 2024 and 90 min reported last month that the Giallorossi are not willing to offer the player the pay rise he is demanding.

Gianluca Di Marzio told Wettfreunde last week that Spurs made a concrete effort to sign Zaniolo in the summer but explained that the North London club were only exploring a part-exchange deal while Roma preferred a straight cash deal.

According to Gazzetta’s latest update, Tottenham ‘continue to push’ for the Italy international, whose future at the Stadio Olimpico is said to be in doubt.

The report states that if Zaniolo does not renew his contract, Roma will not be in a position of strength, and would have to let him go for a fee in the region of €30m-€40 (£26.1m-£34.8m) next summer.

Apart from Spurs, Juventus and AC Milan are also expected to enter the race for the winger’s signature if he becomes available.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Zaniolo does not sign a new contract with Roma, I fully expect Tottenham to reignite their interest in the winger next summer as Paratici and Conte both appear to be admirers of the 23-year-old.

However, there will likely be far more competition for Zaniolo’s signature next summer, particularly if he proves his fitness over the second half of the season.
