Report: Spurs cool interest in defender after Championship club raise asking price

According to a report by Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur have halted their pursuit of Birmingham City defender Rico Browne after the Championship club increased their asking price to more than £1m.

Browne has come through the youth ranks at Birmingham but is yet to make his first-team debut for the Blues.

It was previously reported that the 17-year-old had been given permission to talk to other clubs and that the youngster even had a trial at Spurs earlier in the season.

It was revealed that the North Londoners decided to verbally offer him an 18-month contract but it was West Ham who were said to be leading the race for the defender’s signature.

Football Insider claims that Brighton have also shown interest in snapping up Browne in the summer but the defender’s future is said to be up in the air after recent developments.

The report claims that Birmingham have now decided to increase their valuation of the central defender, which has put off all interested parties including Spurs.
