Report: Spurs cool interest in Everton player following reluctance to sell

Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have cooled their interest in Everton winger Anthony Gordon.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold reported yesterday that Spurs had not only expressed an interest in Richarlison but had also indicated to the Toffees that they would like to also sign Gordon.

The journalist claimed that the young midfielder, who burst onto the scene at Goodison Park last season, was keen on playing Champions League football at Spurs but was not going to push for a move away from his boyhood club

Gold also added that the anger that the 21-year-old’s sale would generate among Everton’s fan base could make it difficult for the Toffees to sell the player.

It now looks like Richarlison is on the verge of joining Tottenham, with The Athletic’s David Ornstein taking to social media today to reveal that the Brazilian will have his medical today ahead of the transfer after Spurs and Everton agreed on a fee in principle.

Thomas has now backed up the news regarding Richarlison, but claimed that Spurs had cooled their interest in the winger after Everton indicated to the club that they do not want to sell the youngster.

Spurs Web Opinion

I did not think Gordon was ever really a realistic target for Spurs this summer as there would have been an uproar among the Goodison Park faithful if they had sold one of their own so soon after he broke into the first-team.

Spurs might potentially try again for the 21-year-old in January or next summer depending on the Toffees plight between now and then.
