Report: Spurs cool interest in Inter Milan player who snubbed Mourinho previously

Jose Mourinho has cooled his interest in Inter Milan defender Diego Godin, according to reports from Italy.

Tottenham are set lose one of their most experienced players at the end of this season with Jan Vertonghen having just a few months left on his contract.

Godin is one of the names said to be on Spurs’ radar this summer as they seek a replacement for the Belgian (Mirror) with reports suggesting that the Uruguayan international is set to leave Inter at the end of the season (Daily Mail).

Mourinho is reportedly a long-time admirer of the defender and tried to sign him when he was in charge at Manchester United only to be rebuffed by the Uruguayan.

Italian publication Tuttosport (as relayed by the Daily Star) claim that Spurs have taken a step back in their pursuit of the 34-year-old after the Portuguese cooled his interest.

I would be happy to let Godin join United as I don’t think he is what we need at the back. He will be a short-term fix and it is unclear if he will have the legs for the Premier League. We ideally need to be going for a younger centre half like Upamecano who can be a long-term solution to our problems at the back.
