Report: Spurs could battle Man City for French starlet next summer

RMC Sport reporter Fabrice Hawkins have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on Nantes starlet Bastien Meupiyou.

Over the last couple of years, Spurs have evidently shifted their transfer strategy, with the club now actively trying to sign the best emerging young talent from around the world.

The Lilywhites have had success with that approach, with the likes of Destiny Udogie and Pape Sarr on their way to becoming superstars.

The North London club are thus seemingly set to continue with that strategy, with Meupiyou now thought to have captured their attention.

Man City and Spurs both like Bastien Meupiyou

The 17-year-old centre-back, who can also operate as a defensive midfielder, has been making waves in youth football and he even broke into Nantes’ senior side this season.

According to Hawkins, the defender is being watched closely by Spurs as well as by Manchester City, but he is not expected to leave the French club before this evening’s 11 pm deadline.

The journalist adds that Lens also made an offer for the teenager this month but the bid was sent back by Nantes.

Hawkins suggests that the race for the France Under-18s international looks set to heat up ahead of next summer’s transfer window.
