Report: Spurs could be forced to shelve plans after Boris Johnson announcement

According to a report in Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur could be forced to call off training after UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, warned against mass gatherings and announced that all sporting events will be cancelled.

The Premier Leauge and the Football League have been suspended until the third/fourth of April amid fears over the spread of the coronavirus (BBC).

While many Premier League clubs have already taken firm action and closed their training grounds, Tottenham have continued to train regularly at Hotspur Way this week as Jose Mourinho looks to get the side ready for a potential return to action next month.

However, with doubts now being expressed over whether footballing action will resume in early April, the Spurs boss might be forced to abandon his plans. It is asserted that the Lilywhites may follow other clubs’ lead and suspend training this week.

I believe we are unlikely to see footballing action return for at least a few more months and so I’m not sure it makes sense to continue training at the moment. Additionally, given the rapid increase in cases of COVID-19 in the UK, it would be prudent of the club to exercise caution.
