According to a report by The Mirror, Tottenham could be priced out of a move for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly with both Manchester United and Manchester City now said to be keen on the player
Koulibaly has been outstanding for the Serie A giants over recent seasons and has established a reputation as one of the best defenders in the league.
Spurs have experienced problems in defence from the start of the season and the issues have persisted under Jose Mourinho.
The report by The Mirror claims that the Portuguese tactician is keen on strengthening the backline by bringing Koulibaly in next month but is suggested that the club might have accepted defeat in their pursuit of the 28-year-old after the interest shown by the big-spending Manchester clubs.
It is claimed that the lilywhites could instead target Benfica’s Ruben Dias or Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake, with the latter said to be available for around £40million.
Spurs Web Opinion
With Vertonghen and Alderweireld seemingly on the decline, it is pivotal we bring in another top central defender either in January or Summer who can be Davinson Sanchez’s long term partner. Now that we have Alderweireld’s contract secured, I would prefer if the club didn’t rush into a signing like Ake and instead waited for the right player.
