Report: Spurs could be set for a backroom shakeup in the summer

According to a report by L’Equipe (as translated and relayed by 90min), Tottenham will try make an attempt to bring Lille’s sporting director Luis Campos to the club in the summer.

The report reveals that the Lilywhites are on the hunt to bolster their backroom staff after Head of Academy Coaching and Player Development John McDermott decided to depart and take up the role of Assistant Technical Director at the Football Association (Spurs official).

Campos is said to be the club’s prefered candidate with the report suggesting that Spurs had already offered Campos the role recently, only for Lille to reject the offer.

Jose Mourinho has previously worked with Campos during their time together at Real Madrid (Metro).

The Lille man is credited heavily helping to unearth the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Nicolas Pepe, James Rodriguez, Anthony Martial, Fabinho, Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy (Sky Sports).

The report suggests however that the 55-year-old’s future at the Ligue 1 outfit is far from secure and he could link up with his compatriot Jose Mourinho at Tottenham at the end of the season.

It is revealed that Spurs are also tracking Lyon’s Head of Recruitment Florian Maurice and have already made an offer to him to move to North London next season.

Spurs Web Opinion

John McDermott will no doubt be a huge loss given the work he has done with our academy set up but his involvement in the club’s transfers was limited anyway. Even if he had stayed, we still needed to sign a director of football to oversee player recruitment and Campos will be the ideal signing given his track record as well as his relationships with Jose Mourinho and Joao Sacramento.
