Report: Spurs could be set to battle it out with Man United for La Liga star

According to a report from La Razon, Tottenham Hotspur are battling Manchester United for Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres.

Tottenham have been backed to make another approach for Torres after failing to get a deal for the centre-back over the line last summer, with the North London club reportedly willing to use Giovani Lo Celso as a makeweight in the deal (Football Insider).

Manchester Evening News reported this week that Man Utd are also set to enter the race for the Villarreal defender when the transfer window opens.

La Razon have now relayed MEN’s report and provided more information on Torres’ future. They reveal that Unai Emery’s side would be willing to let the centre-back leave amidst interest from the Red Devils.

It is asserted that United will face competition from Spurs, who are also keen to secure the Spain international’s services.

La Razon also add that the La Liga side will agree to sell Torres for ‘an amount close’ to the €60m (£50m) release clause in the 25-year-old’s contract.

Spurs Web Opinion

Torress is an extremely talented defender but I do have some concerns over how he will cope with the physical demands of the Premier League. Perhaps playing as part of a three-man defence (as he would at Spurs) rather than a back four (which he does at Villareal) will help him in that regard as he will have more support.
