Report: Spurs could be set to reignite interest in former striker target

According to El Desmarque, Tottenham Hotspur could be set to reignite their interest in Willian Jose after failing with an attempt to sign the striker during the January transfer window.

The Brazilian was heavily linked with a move to Spurs in January (The Sun) as the club were on the lookout for a striker to replace the injured Harry Kane. However, a move did not materialise.

El Desmarque claim that Real Sociedad rejected an offer of €20 million (£18.5m) from Tottenham for Jose in January but they suggest that the La Liga giants might be willing to let him leave this summer.

It is revealed that Sociedad need to raise funds in order to complete a deal for Sevilla’s Carlos Fernandez and it is suggested that they could thus be willing to cash-in on Jose.

The striker appeared to have been unsettled by his links to Spurs in January as he had a lacklustre campaign for the La Liga side last time out.

While it is revealed that Sociedad are yet to receive an offer for the striker, the report suggests one from Spurs could be incoming soon, with Mourinho viewing Jose as a suitable backup for Kane.

Spurs Web Opinion

Jose was clearly on our radar during January and so we know that he is a striker the club are following. However, he has not been mentioned as one of our primary targets this summer. This El Desmarque report also does not suggest that there has been an enquiry from Spurs about the Brazilian this summer. It seems to be entirely based on the fact that we tried to sign him in January. Therefore, there is not much basis to believe that we are actually after him.
