Report: Spurs could ‘benefit’ from sale of Championship star in the summer

Former Tottenham Hotspur winger Jack Clarke is flying at Sunderland currently, leading to plenty of interest from Premier League clubs. If the 23-year-old were to move on, it seems Spurs would benefit as there is a 25% sell-on clause in the original deal taking him to the North East.

Jack Clarke never got much of a Spurs career to talk about. After signing from Leeds United in 2019, Clarke was shipped out on loan multiple times, and made just four first-team appearances for Tottenham amounting to roughly 95 minutes of game time (Transfermarkt).

With a successful loan spell at Sunderland under his belt, Clarke made the move permanent in the summer of 2022. The 23-year-old already has 12 goals and an assist to his name this season (Transfermarkt).

Add this to his return of nine goals and 14 assists last season (Transfermarkt) and it’s clear to see why a number of Premier League clubs are now looking to sign the winger.

Spurs will get 25% of any Jack Clarke sale

It recently emerged that West Ham were keen on Clarke (Daily Mirror), while relegation-threatened Burnley and Sheffield United are also monitoring the situation (HITC).

It is thought Sunderland value Clarke at around £20m, and if any such transfer were to occur, Spurs would reap the benefits. As per the latest from Football.London, it is believed the sell-on clause included in that deal from 2022 amounts to 25 per cent.

However, any transfer for Clarke may have to wait. Apparently, the “feeling around the club is that a mid-season move is less likely than one next summer,” as Sunderland hunt a spot in the play-offs this term.

Spurs Web Opinion

It can’t be long before Clarke ends up in the top flight. Whether that is with Sunderland or not, I imagine he will be playing in the Premier League next season, and I’m sure he will smash it, too.
