Report: Spurs could close deal for striker ‘immediately’ after Barcelona hit roadblock

Marca have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur could seal the signing of Alvaro Morata as Barcelona have now hit roadblocks in their pursuit of the Atletico Madrid striker.

El Partidazo de COPE reported on Thursday that Spurs, Barca and Newcastle had all made offers to sign Morata, who is currently on loan at Juventus.

Marca now claim that Juve would be willing to let the former Chelsea striker leave following their acquisition of Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina.

The report reveals, however, that Barca’s hopes of landing Morata are fading with each passing day. This is because the Catalan club would not be able to afford the 29-year-old’s salary unless they manage to offload Ousmane Dembele before the transfer deadline.

In addition, it is explained Atletico are not willing to loan out Morata to a direct rival.

So, Marca add that both Spurs or Newcastle ‘could close an operation immediately’ if Juve give the green light for the Spain international to leave.

Spurs Web Opinion

I was initially sceptical of the Morata links when it seemed like we were going to get Luis Diaz as I thought the Spaniard would not want to be a bit-part player at Spurs.

However, with Tottenham’s move for Diaz now seemingly on the verge of falling through (The Athletic), I can see Conte and Paratici convincing Morata to join.

Moratta could play as part of a front three with Kane and Son, with the England captain and the South Korean potentially lining up as number tens behind the 29-year-old.
