Report: Spurs could decide to delay new head coach announcement

Paulo Fonseca may not be officially unveiled by Tottenham Hotspur as their new head coach until next week, according to Football.London.

The former AS Roma manager is still based in Italy, where he has been holding further discussions with Tottenham’s new managing director of football, Fabio Paratici.

The report claims that any decision on Fonseca’s announcement could hinge on whether he is granted exemption as an elite sportsman to travel to the UK, otherwise he would have to quarantine for a 10-day period upon arriving in England.

Spurs could alternatively decide to confirm his appointment in a similar manner as what they did for Paratici, with the Italian having sent a video message from his homeland.

The Guardian claimed on Monday that Fonseca is set to be appointed this week on a three-year agreement, which consists of an initial two-year deal followed by the option of a further twelve months.

Whether he is unveiled in London or via a video is a mere formality, what is most important is the fact that hopefully he and Paratici are already at work on the painful rebuild which Mauricio Pochettino warned everyone about.
