Report: Spurs could face competition for Bastoni from Premier League rivals

According to the print edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport, (as relayed by Manchester Evening News), Manchester United could be about to enter the race for Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni, who is also on Tottenham’s radar.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold reported over the weekend that Bastoni is Tottenham’s top target for the left centre-back role but added that Spurs may be put off by Inter Milan’s steep asking price for the defender.

The Evening Standard subsequently reported on Monday that the 23-year-old is reluctant to swap Inter for Spurs and that the North London club would have to convince the player to make the move.

If Gazzetta’s latest update is to be believed, Tottenham might also have to contend with competition from Man Utd for Bastoni.

The report claims that Erik Ten Hag is keen on snapping up the Italy international as the new United boss sees the Inter star as the ideal option to reinforce his backline.

It is alleged that Inter will not sell the defender for a fee less than €60m (£51.1m) but the report does add that the Nerazzurri have to sanction the sale of a big-name player to balance the books.

Hopefully, the Conte factor and the fact that we employ a back three (the formation where Bastoni is most comfortable) would convince the Inter star to pick Spurs over Man Utd.

The 23-year-old’s transition to English football would be much easier under Conte, given that he is well versed with the demands of the Italian’s set-up already.
